Our Sustainability Commitment
Why we care...
“Even as a small part of this incredible industry, we feel we have our role to play.”
Since the 2015 Paris Climate Accord, the aviation industry has been under pressure to limit its carbon footprint, and we are fully committed to being part of the solution to minimising the industry’s impact on the global environment.
The IATA has a four-pillar strategy to help the industry move towards lowering emissions to minimise its impact on global warming.
These four pillars cover:
Socio-economic
Technology
Infrastructure
Operations
Our environmental and community credentials
Artemis has been a community business operating in a global arena for many years. Despite our overseas trade, we have never lost sight of the importance of our immediate surroundings and have a keen focus on community engagement and environmental care.
1. Repairing and recycling component parts
We actively support the civil aircraft maintenance sector by supplying equipment that is monitored, repaired, and returned to service in a continual loop over its operational life to ensure waste is minimised. Once components reach the end of their lifecycle, they are all recycled to meet the aviation industry’s best practices.
2. Refurbished equipment and furnishings for simulators
Since 2000, we have been helping simulator manufacturers build new flight simulators using refurbished equipment and furnishings which have been removed from scrapped aircraft. This has significantly reduced the amount of material that would otherwise be directed to landfill.
3. Effectively managing the viability of assets
We work closely with aircraft investors to determine the financial viability of each asset, and the economic and environmental impact of keeping an aircraft flying and whether it should remain in service or be broken down for spares.
4. Renovating cockpit shells
Our work with simulator companies means that cockpit shells that would normally go to landfill are now turned into simulator shells.
5. Recycled packaging
All our packaging has been made from recycled materials (including bubble wrap) since 2021.
6. Sustainable aviation fuel investment
We are investing in sustainable aviation fuel, by taking part in the DHL Express GoGreen Plus scheme.
7. Biodiversity and environment
Artemis is the custodian of 20 acres of countryside in rural West Sussex, comprising wildlife ponds, meadows, ancient woodland and hedgerows. These are home to a plethora of flora and fauna including rare orchids, birds of prey, bats, newts, badgers, owls, wild deer, breeding geese and duck.
8. Charity support
We support a local charity in Henfield through donations and involvement, to encourage fitness and wellbeing in the community for all ages.
We also support charities in Ireland and Canada through donations, which work with communities in areas where our customers operate.
9. Community involvement
We host regular fun days and get-togethers for our immediate neighbours and farming community, which in recent years has included a stoolball competition for the Spithandle Cup.
10. Renewable energy
Our land is part of the Rampion 2 offshore wind farm development which will be generating renewable energy in the very near future.
11. Electric vehicles
We have invested in a fleet of electric vehicles for company use.
