From aircraft parts to folk music - Why we’re supporting the Dooagh Folk Festival
What do aviation and folk music have in common? Not a lot, you might think, but actually we enjoy a strong connection.
Artemis Aerospace’s connection with the Dooagh Folk Festival on Achill Island, in the West of Ireland, began with a pilot, a musical instrument and a small favour – and has since grown into a partnership supporting a brilliant community event in the west of Ireland.
Taking place from 11th–13th September, Dooagh Folk Festival brings together musicians, locals and visitors for a weekend celebrating live music, friendship and community. The festival also raises funds for three local family-focused charities.
The person behind the festival is Sean Lynch, who works as a pilot for Aer Lingus and is also an aviation technical consultant. Away from aviation, Sean is a talented musician, which is how our involvement in the festival began.
A few years ago, Sean asked us to help arrange the shipping of one of his musical instruments, which we were happy to help with. It certainly stood out from the usual items we move around the world!
That small request led to a lasting relationship, and we’re now supporting the festival for the third year alongside other companies from the aircraft leasing community.
For us, it’s a great example of how relationships built through aviation can extend beyond the industry itself. While our day-to-day work focuses on keeping aircraft flying, we also value the people and communities that make our sector what it is.
Sponsoring the Dooagh Folk Festival is about supporting a community event that brings people together, while raising money for important local causes. This year, the event will support St Colman’s Care Centre, which provides essential care and social support services for older people across Achill Island, and Rosabel’s Rooms, in partnership with the Irish Hospice Foundation, which offers vital support and comfort to bereaved parents and families following the loss of a child. Two very worthwhile causes making a real difference to people’s lives.
We’re looking forward to heading back to Achill Island this year, enjoying the music and spending time with good friends. Events like this are a reminder that sometimes the strongest connections aren’t made in boardrooms or at industry conferences – they happen through shared interests, conversations and a bit of music.
We wish the organisers, performers and everyone attending this year’s Dooagh Folk Festival a fantastic weekend.
